REAL APPLICATIONS FOR INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES

This Workshop is designed to give delegates insight and hands-on knowledge of how user-interactive Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies are progressing through the latest research projects and activities in academia and industry. Thus, the focus of this workshop is not on presenting papers but rather on the provision of demonstrations and hands-on activities which are being provided by Ravensbourne College staff. The demonstrations focus on three main application areas:
- Wearable Technologies: including papers from the European Research project on Wearable Experience for Knowledge Intensive Training (WEKIT), in which Ravensbourne is leading 13 partners representing academia and industry, in the development of a unique learning technology platform and methodology to bring learning content and technical documentation to life.
- WebVR: this is an early-stage open standard supported by VR headset manufacturers and developers, aiming to make it possible to experience ‘added value’ VR in your browser. The goal is to make it easier for everyone to interact for various VR use cases, no matter what device is being used.
- 3D Image Capture: This part of the Workshop investigates how to transport your own digital persona into VR, AR 3D-worlds. Presented papers will include developments like HoloPortal™, the UK’s first facility which captures still or moving objects and generates 3D virtual doubles for Mixed Reality worlds.
